Purpose
This guide explains how Trigger orders work, how they are activated, and why the activation price and actual fill price can be different.
Key Concepts
- A Trigger order waits until the trigger price condition is met.
- After activation, it is executed using market-style execution.
- Buy Trigger orders are evaluated against the ask side and then filled from ask quotes.
- Sell Trigger orders are evaluated against the bid side and then filled from bid quotes.
- Trigger activation is not a guarantee of the execution price.
Step-by-Step User Flow
- Select a symbol.
- Open the Trigger tab.
- Choose Buy or Sell.
- Enter the trigger price.
- Enter the order value or lot quantity.
- Review the estimated value, lot size, bid/ask, and spread.
- Submit the Trigger order.
- Before activation, check the order in Orders.
- After activation and execution, check the position in Positions or the result in Completed Orders.
How Trigger Orders Activate
The trigger price determines when the order becomes active. After activation, the order is executed using the current market quote.
- Buy Trigger: When the buy condition is met, the order is filled using ask quotes.
- Sell Trigger: When the sell condition is met, the order is filled using bid quotes.
Because execution occurs after activation, the actual fill price may differ from the trigger price.
Cautions and Limitations
- The trigger price is a condition price, not a guaranteed execution price.
- Fast-moving markets, spread changes, and available quote levels may cause the execution price to differ from the trigger price.
- If the available quote levels cannot immediately fill the entire Trigger order, the remaining lots may stay active and be evaluated again when quotes are updated.
- Trigger orders can be canceled before they are fully filled.
- During rollover or market rule changes, unfilled Trigger orders or remaining lots may be canceled according to the service policy.
- If the quote is stale, activation or execution of the remaining lots may be delayed until a fresh quote becomes available.
FAQ
Is a Trigger order the same as a limit order?
No. In this CFD model, the trigger price determines when the order is activated. After activation, execution follows market-style bid/ask quotes.
Why was my Trigger order filled at a different price?
The trigger price activated the order, but the execution used the available quote after activation.
Can a Trigger order be partially filled?
Yes. If the available quote levels do not fill the entire order immediately, the remaining lots may stay active until they are filled or canceled.
Can I cancel a Trigger order?
You can cancel the order while it is still open or before the remaining lots are fully filled, subject to current market conditions and system status.
